Introduction to a developmental approach to youth football.
Sunday
20th July 2008 -
The programme has been developed by Richmond Sports Coaching.
The Theme for our first pilot day is You can do it! Enjoy trying things in a safe place
The Day will use the following format:-
• 9.30 am - Meet and greet the PLAYERS and parents Short reminder of what we have planned. Players to sign a code of conduct in the presence of their guardian.
• 9.45 am - The players and coaches will take part in a warm-up whilst the parents sign the Richmond code of conduct. (Parents will have been briefed as to the expectations of the organisers who will adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to achieving the aims of the programme).
• 10 am - 4-v-4 Games will be played (as used at the Manchester United Academy) Four different developmental games will be played. Each Game will be 10minutes each way, with a break every 5 minutes. During breaks the coaches will take the opportunity to help the players to discover different ways in which they may improve.
• 12 noon - Lunch The organisers will take this opportunity to gain feedback from all involved, this feedback will be forwarded to the FA.
• 1 pm/3pm - 6-v-6 (6 players per team including Goalkeepers) Games will be played on suitable size pitches using equipment as recommended by the FA County Development Manager. The Games will last 14 minutes each way with a break mid way through each half. Teams will rotate and play 3 games each.
• 3pm/4pm - Managers and coaches to take part in a 1 hour session where they play 4v4 football and discuss the day to allow feedback to the FA.
Notes: Games will be seeded as the day progresses, with coaches deciding which teams play the most attractive football. This will ensure a more equal approach to games and the level of competition. Coaches will need to attend a briefing evening on either Monday 7th or Thursday 10th July, at 8pm. This meeting will be used to discuss the developmental approach that will be adopted. Please note that each coach will need to produce a current CRB form.
Academy Training Days U6/U7/U8
Academy training and 4v4, 6v6 and 8v8 games for all age groups will take place on Saturday mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm (venue T.B.C)

Parents and coaches will be encouraged to leave participation in games to the players and will only be able to encourage good play for either team or the games referee. There will be a ZERO tolerance approach to parents coaching from the side lines

The cost for participation in this event is £5 per player and you must have a minimum of 8 players. If you only have 4 players you can take part in the 4 v 4 part on the day and we will then provide you with 4 extra players from our pool of individuals who will be taking part.
Richmond Sports Coaching are dedicated to a developmental approach to participation in sport. We are providers and deliverers of excellent sporting environments where children can have fun in sport without the fear of criticism or pressure. We encourage children to explore and find individual ways of achieving their true potential. We offer a fully inclusive holistic approach to development and adopt the ‘Four Corner Model’ championed by the FA. All our coaching staff are professionally qualified and have been CRB checked to an enhanced level. Our lead coach is a coach educator for the FA and holds the UEFA ‘A’ Licence.
We look forward to meeting you at the briefing evenings, when we will clarify further any questions that you may have. We will also spend some time finalising the (4-v-4 , 6-v-6) rules.
Finally, we will as part of our education programme be willing to clarify any part of our developmental approach, however it will not be a discussion just clarification as we have a clear vision that embraces all that is outlines by the FA in its quest for a cultural change in football. We hope to keep developing our philosophy and be the first coaching organisation in the country to put in place a safe and friendly coaching programme with fellow coaching professionals that share the vision outline by Sir Trevor Brooking.
